Every dorm is different. Every school has different rules. What's provided, what's allowed, what size the bed is, and how much storage you have will vary — even from room to room on the same campus. The items on this checklist are suggestions based on what most guys need and use, but they are not one-size-fits-all.

Before you start shopping, take time to research your specific dorm. What does the school provide? What's prohibited? What are the rules on power strips, appliances, rugs, and wall hangings? Those answers will shape everything.
